Defend Souls in Undertale Soul OPs 2

Every Undertale Soul OPs 2 run lives or dies on six souls anchored near the arena center. Enemies from Undertale, Underfell, Outertale, and Multiverse arcs do not care about your K/D — they path toward souls. Up to five human players must split damage, interception, and burst healing so the cluster survives from wave one through Gaster, optional secrets, and Endless scaling. This guide is the defensive playbook the Getting Started overview points to.

What counts as soul damage

Any hit that connects with a soul chip counts against your run. Some bosses use area denial that bypasses players and strikes souls directly (Omega Chara spikes, Outertale Asgore shockwaves). Perfect waves — clearing a wave with zero soul hits — grant +25 bonus coins each time. Over a full Normal run that bonus can fund an entire Tier upgrade (Economy).

Track soul HP visually: cracked souls mean your team leaked damage. After the wave ends, rotate the player on soul duty if two perfect waves fail in a row.

Class roles: Attack, Defense, Support

Characters fall into Attack, Defense, and Support classes (full roster on Playable Characters). Soul defense is a team sport — five Attack mains lose to one well-placed Underfell Sans blink.

Attack players pull aggro outward and delete elites before they reach the cluster. They should not stand inside the soul ring unless finishing a boss.

Defense players body-block lanes, use E utilities from Controls, and eat telegraphed hits meant for souls. Toriel and Asgore excel here; Undyne works hybrid Attack/Defense.

Support players keep Defense alive, cleanse debuffs when kits allow, and time heals before known spike phases in Normal Walkthrough.

Use the Team Comp Checker before queue: aim for at least one Defense and one Support in five-stacks, or accept harder perfect-wave odds.

Positioning fundamentals

Think in rings:

  1. Inner ring — one Defense or Support hugging souls, ready to E shield
  2. Mid ring — hybrid DPS intercepting fast units
  3. Outer ring — Attack clearing spawns before they path inward

Spawn lanes differ per AU theme. UT waves often come from two fronts; Underfell adds aggressive rushers. Call lane assignments in voice chat — “left outer” and “soul anchor” prevent five players stacking one side.

During Gaster, soul throws temporarily move individual souls toward the Universe Core (Beat Gaster). Assign a throw caller so souls return to formation before the next wave (Controls shift-lock helps console aim).

Turrets, perks, and shop tools

Between waves the shop sells turrets, packs, and perks (Economy). Turrets cover lanes when your squad is under-geared or down a player.

Turret tips:

  • Place on lanes you cannot personally hold every wave
  • Upgrade turret tiers with the same 1,250 coin breakpoints as characters
  • Do not place turrets inside the soul cluster — splash hits still hurt souls on some bosses

Perks that slow, taunt, or shield amplify Defense classes. Damage perks belong on Attack players who already hold outer ring.

Boss-specific soul threats

Omega Chara — spike floors under souls; inner ring jumps or E shields mandatory.

Underfell Sans — short-range teleports behind souls if outer ring collapses; keep one player facing backward.

Outertale Asgore — radial AOEs; spread souls cannot help — dodge outward as a team.

Gaster / Universe Core — six movement phases require coordinated throws; one missed throw often tags a soul. Study phase order in Beat Gaster.

Hard Mode adds Fresh disc patterns and Nightmare puddles (Hard Mode) — soul anchor must move earlier, not later.

Dio Sans secret (Secrets) compresses the arena — shrink rings temporarily.

Five-player coordination without voice

Roblox text chat is slow. Use emotes or quick callouts:

  • “Soul” when returning to anchor
  • “Throw” during Gaster
  • “Ult” before R dumps on boss stun

Vote skip on intro dialogue only after everyone knows the fight (Controls). Randoms who skip early hide learning cues.

When to let a soul chip once

Chasing a 1% perfect run on Endless (Endless) makes sense. On first Normal clear, trading one soul hit to save a wiped player is often correct — a dead team earns zero coins. Prioritize squad alive over flawless stats until Gaster is on farm status.

Scaling into Hard and Endless

Hard Mode assumes you already defend souls in sleep mode on Normal. Endless increases enemy stats faster than soul effective HP — Tier 5 upgrades (Tier Unlock Planner) and badge perks (Unlock Characters) become mandatory.

Check Tier List for Defense/Support picks that scale into late Endless waves.

Common mistakes

  • All five players chase one elite while trash leaks to souls
  • Ignoring perfect-wave bonus early when Tier 1 costs only two clean waves
  • Skipping turret buys on four-player lobbies
  • Throwing souls during wrong Gaster phase without reading Beat Gaster
  • Running Scripts that ignore soul pathing — report suspicious auto-path players when needed

Master soul defense here, then chain Normal Walkthrough for timing each boss spike.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Undertale Soul OPs 2 players.

How many souls do you defend in Undertale Soul OPs 2?

There are six souls in the center of the arena. Enemies path toward them; your team must intercept and clear threats before souls break.

What is the perfect wave bonus?

If all six souls finish a wave without taking damage, your team earns +25 bonus coins on top of normal wave rewards.

Which class is best for defending souls?

Defense and Support classes anchor near souls. Attack players should hold outer lanes and kill elites before they reach the cluster.

Do turrets protect souls automatically?

Turrets help cover lanes you cannot hold, but poor placement near the soul cluster can still lead to splash damage on some bosses.

Why do souls keep dying during Gaster?

Gaster's Universe Core phases require aimed soul throws. Missed throws and wrong phase timing chip souls — read the Beat Gaster guide for all six movement phases.

Is perfect wave worth chasing as a beginner?

Try for perfect waves on early UT arcs when enemies are slow. Do not wipe the squad chasing perfection on first Hard or Gaster attempts.
